The first consultation is divided into two parts. The first is focused around the symptoms themselves aiming to ascertain which tissues are causing pain such as disc, muscle, ligament, joint, organ etc. The other part on the other hand is focused on examining the whole body to finding out and resolve the pertinent problems actually causing the troublesome symptomatic tissues.

During the consultation, the case history is taken first. The aim for this is for the practitioner to comprehend all the factors involved in the patient’s body and symptoms. The case history includes a full medical and injury history, patterns of the symptoms, lifestyle and analysis of medical investigations such as x-rays and scans.

The symptomatic area as well as the whole body is then assessed to ascertain where the causative issues lie and an osteopathic diagnosis is made and explained in detail. Finally, the whole body is treated resolving these causative problems. A range of techniques are used from manipulation, soft tissue work and stretching, mobilisation of joints as well as more gentle approaches such as cranial osteopathy and gentle releases of soft tissues. The choice of techniques vary depending on the person and the nature of their body. One’s body may react very well to a given approach but not to another.

The consultation is carried out with patients remaining fully dressed insuring a comfortable experience. It is advisable to wear loose comfortable clothes that will allow full range of motion.
